Synopsis
Dukandar is a story about Mahesh, a mischievous slum boy who loves cricket and is extremely desperate to see the big India Pakistan cricket match. However, Mahesh is forced to take care of his father’s tea shop for the day. Mahesh struggles in the shop as he has no experience with customers and his mind is on the cricket. Mahesh’s friend comes to get him to go to the match but he refuses after much persuasion as he doesn’t want to disappoint his father. Suddenly, Mahesh thinks of a master plan to fool customers and achieve the target his father had set him. His plan works. Customers are pouring in and the cash drawer of the shop is quickly filling up. Finally, he makes it just in time for the last ball to see India win. He celebrates with his friends. However, as he sees the setting sun he is reminded of the return of his father. He rushes back to the shop. He is shocked and devastated to see that the shop is looted because he forgot to lock the shop when he left. In the end of this coming of age story Mahesh realises that there is more to life than cricket and he is forced to grow up sooner than he thought.
